چکیده مقاله:
Pregnancy and childbirth are exhilarating and joyous events in a woman’s life, yet they also represent one of the most sensitive periods in a woman’s life. The importance of mental health during pregnancy is such that many adult health issues originate from adverse conditions during fetal development and childhood. Damage to the fetus during pregnancy can predispose individuals to numerous psychological (e.g., bipolar disorder during pregnancy, postpartum psychosis, schizophrenia, and eating disorders) and physical disorders later in life. The extensive physiological changes in a woman’s body during pregnancy significantly affect metabolism and gut microbiota. Recent studies indicate that the gut microbiome directly influences mental health and neuropsychiatric disorders. The gut-brain axis is a complex bidirectional communication network involving the nervous, immune, and endocrine systems, as well as neurotransmitter signaling. The unique gut microbiome plays a pivotal role in these interactions.
