Multiple Intelligences, Psychological Wellbeing, and Relation to EFL Learners’ Proficiency

چکیده مقاله:

The purpose of this study was to determine the role of multiple intelligence and psychological wellbeing in EFL learners’ proficiency. The participants were ۱۹۱ senior undergraduate students (۶۴ males, ۱۲۷ females) studying English as a foreign language in Shahid Bahonar University of Kerman, Iran. The instrument used to measurement MI was Multiple Intelligences Scale by Amstong (۱۹۹۴), PWB was Psychological Wellbeing Scale by Ryff (۱۹۹۵), and EFL Learners’ Proficiency was Michigan ECPE Proficiency test by Briggs, et al. (۱۹۹۷). Pearson Product –Moment Correlation analysis and descriptive statistics were conducted to answer the research questions raised in this study. Regarding the relationship between multiple intelligences (interpersonal, intrapersonal, linguistic), psychological wellbeing, and EFL learners' proficiency the results revealed that there was a positive correlation between interpersonal, linguistic intelligence and language proficiency. The findings also showed that there was a positive and moderate significant relationship between psychological wellbeing and language proficiency, but negative correlation between intrapersonal and language proficiency. Furthermore, the findings showed that the most and the least frequent types of multiple intelligences were interpersonal and intrapersonal intelligence respectively.
