Analysis of the role of new smart technologies in sustainable urban development: a meta -combination study of global experiences with an emphasis on its application in Iranian cities

The ever-increasing growth of urbanization along with environmental, economic and social challenges has increased the necessity of using smart technologies to achieve sustainable urban development. This research was conducted with the aim of investigating the impact of new technologies on sustainable urban development and providing a local framework for Iranian cities. The research method is a synthesis of previous studies that have been carried out by systematic search and critical analysis of reliable sources. The results of the research show that technologies such as Internet of Things, big data and artificial intelligence can have positive effects on the quality of urban life by optimizing resources, reducing pollution and strengthening social justice. Examining successful global experiences, including the cities of Singapore and Barcelona, shows that these technologies, in addition to reducing inequalities, have strengthened social participation and interaction between citizens and city management. On the other hand, obstacles such as weak digital infrastructure, lack of appropriate legal frameworks and cultural resistance are the main challenges for the implementation of these technologies in Iran. This research suggests that by developing technological infrastructure, promoting public awareness and increasing citizens' participation, the ground for the adoption and implementation of smart technologies will be provided. Also, designing local and comprehensive evaluation models that cover local needs can be an effective step in solving these challenges and making better use of global experiences.
