A Rhodamine ۶G Sensitized Chemiluminescence Method for the Determination of Haloperidol

AbstractIn this study, a new chemiluminescence (CL) method has been proposed to determine haloperidol (HP). Typical CL systems and several fluorescent dyes were examined to determine HP, including rhodamine ۶G, brilliant blue, orange G, chromotrope ۲R, eosin Y, amaranth, amido black, and victoria blue as sensitizers. It was found that HP concentration could be determined in the CL systems of Ru(phen)۳۲+-Ce(IV), KMnO۴-H۲SO۴, Luminol-K۳Fe(CN)۶, and rhodamine ۶G-Ce(IV). Due to the novelty of the method and its sensitivity, the rhodamine ۶G-Ce(IV) CL system was chosen for the determination of HP. In the proposed method, oxidation of rhodamine ۶G by Ce(IV) produces weak CL that increases in the presence of HP. Mechanism study using UV-Vis, fluorescence, and CL spectra showed that excited state rhodamine ۶G, produced via energy transfer from the unstable intermediates to the rhodamine ۶G molecule, is the main emitter. The linear dynamic range, detection limit, and percent of the relative standard deviation in the rhodamine ۶G-Ce(IV) CL system were determined to be ۷.۰۱۰-۷ – ۱.۰۱۰-۴ mol L-۱, ۲.۳۱۰-۷ mol L-۱, and ۴.۸%, respectively. The proposed method was successfully evaluated to determine HP in the pharmaceuticals.
