Comparing the position of urban management in Iran with a number of countries with their job description approach

In the last few decades, municipalities around the world have been assuming more duties as civil, public, and local institutions. The interesting thing to note is that this trend can be observed in most countries, regardless of their form of government. In most countries, the mayor is the highest official in the local government of cities or metropolises. In most political systems, the mayor plays the role of the highest executive or ceremonial official in various types of municipalities. The present study is an applied study in terms of its purpose and a descriptive-analytical study in terms of its nature and methodology. This study seeks to compare the duties of municipalities as urban management in Iran with other countries. In comparing the duties of Iranian municipalities as an institution of urban management with some countries in the world, it can be said that the duties of municipalities have had an increasing trend. The reasons for this include the level of development of countries and the use of the capacity and participation of local institutions and the private sector. On the other hand, governments in developing countries, especially Iran, push municipalities to perform more limited duties because in Iran, municipalities do not have full authority within their legal limits and face inconsistencies with other urban organizations in performing their duties.
