This article explores the dynamic relationship between city branding and sustainable urban development, highlighting how cities worldwide are leveraging branding strategies to foster environmental stewardship, economic resilience, and cultural richness. Through case studies from Malmö, Graz, the Yangtze River Delta, and resource-dependent cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi, the study examines how branding supports sustainable goals, promotes smart technologies, and adapts to diverse urban challenges. A framework is outlined that considers economic development, environmental and socio-cultural factors, infrastructure, and governance as essential components of a sustainable brand. The article also addresses challenges in urban branding, such as balancing smart technology with environmental objectives and engaging local stakeholders. Ultimately, sustainable urban branding presents opportunities for cities to enhance their global standing and contribute to broader environmental goals, illustrating the strategic potential of branding for a sustainable future.
