Cement production is a major contributor to global CO emissions, accounting for approximately ۸% of total emissions. The search for sustainable alternatives has intensified as the construction industry seeks to reduce its environmental impact. This comprehensive review examines the various sustainable cement alternatives, including blended cements, geopolymers, and bio-cements, among others. It explores the innovations driving their development and assesses their impacts on carbon footprint reduction. The review highlights the potential of these alternatives to significantly decrease CO emissions and discusses the challenges and future directions for their widespread adoption.
