چکیده مقاله:

Semantic analysis of words is a linguistic outlook that emphasizes on the meaning of words in the context ofdiscourse. One modern theory in the word semantic analysis is Izutsu's Semantic Field Theory. On the basis ofthe aforesaid theory, this study has a purpose to uncover the main meaning of the word "Nas" in the text of theverse ۲۴ of the Surah Al-Baqarah that introduces it as the firewood of Hell, yet, it has been translating as"people" by translators. To this objective, this research attempts to examine the semantic field of the word“Nas” through a descriptive-analytical method within the context of the Quranic discourses. The data collectionof this research consisted of the ۱۱ verses of Quran related to the word “Nas”. The findings indicated that theword "Nas" in the verses of Quran does not represent "people". But, it refers to those persons who have forgottenAllah, and ignored their belief in monotheism. The word "Nas" is a proper noun which means "the forgetful"derived from /næsiwoɔn/ (a deficient verb) in Arabic. So, the main meaning of the word "Nas" does not equateto the common word "people", but rather implies specific individuals of people.
