چکیده

The use of plants and the compounds that they contain has been documented throughout history as a means of treating and managing a variety of ailments. A significant number of the conventional medicines that are employed in the treatment of diseases are derived from plant sources, either directly or indirectly. The fungal kingdom is crucial since it not only supplies humans with food, but it also serves as a source of essential drugs. This makes it an important industry. An example of this would be the fact that fungus are the source of antibiotics that are commonly used. There have also been instances of fungi being utilized in the food industry, particularly in the baking and alcohol making industries. In addition to their importance to the economy, microfungi have also been utilized as a source of food that is directly consumed. This is typically obtained from their fruiting bodies, which are more popularly referred to as mushrooms. Due to the high levels of proteins, minerals, and other nutrients that mushrooms contain, there is evidence that they can help strengthen the immune system from time to time. There is a substantial amount of nutritional value in mushrooms, particularly for vegetarians and people who have immune systems that are compromised, such as those who are living with HIV/AIDS. In the field of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), mushrooms are gaining popularity as a potential treatment for a wide range of conditions. It has been established that mushrooms have the ability to strengthen the immune system, control both humoral and cellular immunity, and boost the activity against cancers and mutagens. Furthermore, they have the ability to revive the immune system, which has been impaired by radiotherapy and chemotherapy in various chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments for cancer. There is a possibility that mushrooms could be evaluated as prospective candidates for immunomodulation and immunotherapy in the treatment of cancer and other illnesses. However, there has not been sufficient research conducted on the immunological modifying capacity of mushrooms for the treatment of ovarian cancer that has been conducted. Within the scope of this review, an examination of the immunological functions of mushrooms with regard to their anticancer capabilities, particularly ovarian cancer, is brought to light.
