چکیده

Cervical cancer is currently the second leading cause of cancer death among women from developing countries. However, there is a lack of effective treatment methods, and the existing treatments often result in significant adverse reactions and high chances of recurrence, which ultimately impact the prognosis of patients. As a result, the application of nanotechnology, specifically nanoparticle-based approaches, in the diagnosis and treatment of cervical cancer has gained significant attention. The increasing number of cervical cancer cases among women highlights the need to improve diagnostic methods and determine the stage of the disease. Nanotechnology has emerged as a promising field, allowing the utilization of nanomaterials in various diagnostic procedures. This utilization is driven by the unique physical characteristics of nanomaterials, which enhance the precision of diagnosis and the effectiveness of treatment. Therefore, the application of nanotechnology in the diagnosis and treatment of cervical cancer in women holds great potential to significantly improve the efficiency and accuracy of detection and therapy, providing valuable time for subsequent treatment. This study aimed to develop and evaluate sustainable synthesis methods for cobalt ferrite (CoFe۲O۴) nanoparticles (NPs) intended for cervical cancer treatment. Using both conventional chemical methods and green synthesis approaches with nettle extract, we produced CoFe۲O۴ NPs and incorporated graphene oxide (GO) to enhance their properties. The NPs were characterized using various techniques, including XRD, FTIR, SEM, TEM, and VSM. The cytotoxic effects of CoFe۲O۴NPs, GO NPs, and CoFe۲O۴-GO NPs on HeLa cells were assessed using the MTT assay. Additionally, Western blot analysis was conducted to evaluate the expression of apoptosis-related proteins, Bax, caspase-۳, and Bcl-۲. The results indicated that CoFe۲O۴-GO NPs exhibited superior magnetic properties and significantly higher cytotoxicity against HeLa cells compared to individual NPs. The CoFe۲O۴-GO NPs induced apoptosis in HeLa cells by upregulating Bax and caspase-۳ and downregulating Bcl-۲. These findings suggest that CoFe۲O۴-GO NPs, synthesized via a green method, offer a promising and eco-friendly approach to cervical cancer therapy.
