Carbon dioxide (CO۲) absorption is one of the key technologies in combating climate change. With increasing concerns about the effects of greenhouse gases, carbon capture and storage (CCS) methods have been considered as one of the effective solutions to reduce CO۲ emissions. The search for sustainable and practical carbon absorption technologies has intensified in recent years. Because scientific models show that preventing catastrophic climate change means limiting carbon dioxide concentrations to less than ۴۵۰ parts per million by the year ۲۱۰۰. The conductive electrodes are coated with a compound called polyanthraquinone, a natural chemical absorber for carbon dioxide under certain conditions. When these special conditions are not present, polyanthraquinone does not tend to absorb carbon dioxide. When activated by a low-level electric current, the charged battery reacts with passing carbon dioxide molecules and draws them to its surface. When the battery is saturated, carbon dioxide can be released as a pure gas stream with a small voltage change. Verdax technology should be able to absorb carbon dioxide from the air and its emission sources at the level of mega and gigatons. According to the assessment of the International Panel on Climate Change, the world needs to remove ۱۰ gigatons of carbon dioxide annually by ۲۰۵۰, in order to keep the global temperature, rise below ۲ degrees Celsius. Verdex is also developing systems for the efficient absorption and removal of carbon dioxide from the ambient air.
