چکیده مقاله:

Background: Suicide is one of the challenging issues of societies and health systems around theworld. Personality traits are closely related to suicidal ideation, suicide attempts, and completingsuicide. In the present study, it has been tried to investigate the personality traits of the patientswho commit suicide by drug intoxication. Methods: In the current cross-sectional study, ۱۸۰ attempting suicide patients through drugintoxication referring to Shahid Beheshti Hospital in Taft in ۱۴۰۱ were evaluated. At first, therisk of committing suicide was divided into low, low-medium, and medium-high risk categoriesusing the Paterson criteria. Then, the personality characteristics of the participants werecompared using the temperament and personality questionnaire (TCI) in different groups ofsuicide-attempting risk. The study data were evaluated using SPSS version ۲۳ software. A Pvalueless than ۰.۰۵ was defined as the significance level. Results: The majority of the study subjects were females (۵۴.۷%). The mean age of the studiedpopulation was ۳۰.۰۲±۱۲.۵۶ years old (age range: ۱۵-۷۶ years). The frequency of patients withlow, low-to-moderate, and moderate-to-high risk of committing suicide accounted for ۴۵.۶%,۴۶.۲%, and ۷.۲%, respectively. Reward dependence (P-value = ۰.۰۰۵) and cooperation (P-value= ۰.۰۰۳) represented significant decreases with increasing suicide risk. Other factors of the TCI,including novelty seeking (P-value = ۰.۹۷۱), harm avoidance (P-value = ۰.۰۵۱), perseverance (Pvalue= ۰.۴۱۸), self-directedness (P-value = ۰.۱۷۱), and self-transcendence (P-value = ۰.۷۱۴),were not associated with the risk of a suicide attempt. Conclusion: Based on the findings of the present study, suicide attempts were significantlyrelated to TCI subscales, including reward dependence and less cooperation in people withmedium to high risk of committing suicide. However, other subcategories, including innovation, harm avoidance, persistence, self-directedness, cooperation, and self-transcendence, had nosignificant relationship with suicide attempts
