Investigating the positive and negative motivations for childbearing and related factors inwomen referring to health centers in Lorestan province in ۲۰۲۳: a cross-sectional study

Background: Since our country is one of the countries with a low fertility rate and the positiveand negative motivations for childbearing are effective in increasing the fertility rate, this studyaims to investigate the factors affecting the motivation to have children in women who refer tohealth centers. It was done at Lorestan University of Medical Sciences in ۲۰۲۳.Method: This study is a cross-sectional study that was conducted on ۵۳۴ women of reproductiveage in Lorestan province. Data collection tools included demographic and midwifery informationquestionnaires and questionnaires on positive and negative motivations for having children. Thedata were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation test. SPSS-۲۱ software wasused for data analysis.Findings: No significant difference was observed in terms of positive and negative motivationsfor having children among different educational levels. The ANOVA test showed that thepositive motives for having children in women in the good economic status class are higher thanin other groups (P<۰.۰۵). Also, there is a relationship between the joy of pregnancy and thehistory of abortion (P=۰.۰۲۷), childcare challenges and the number of live children (P=۰.۰۱), thejoy of pregnancy with the number of previous pregnancies (P=۰.۰۴), and between the totalnegative motivation and the previous pregnancy experience (P= ۰.۰۲۶).Conclusion: Positive and negative motivations for having children and their subscales arerelated to several variables including economic status, previous pregnancy experience, number ofprevious pregnancies, history of abortion, and number of live children. Therefore, it isrecommended to consider the mentioned variables to adopt strategies and decisions regarding theyouth of the population
