چکیده مقاله:

This study examines the effect of shape index on the elastic buckling of elliptical shells under uniform external pressure. The shells have uniform wall thickness (۲ mm) and capacity (۳.۶۳×۱۰۶ mm), with shape index, kc=c/a, in the range of ۰ to ۹۹, evaluated. Several numerical calculations including linear elastic buckling analysis and geometric nonlinear buckling analysis are performed using specific defects for these shells. Some of them are examined experimentally. The results show that an ellipsoidal shell with a stable component appears to be an unfavorable shape due to its low bearing capacity, which contradicts previous results related to this problem. The noteworthy point is that Cassini's ellipsoidal geometry with dimensions kc=۰.۱ has a high carrying capacity, which is desirable in various fields such as underwater tanks, pressurized shells and synthetic capsules.
