Speaking is one of the four major skills, in language competence; and one way to improve it is practicing through conversation classes. Choosing a proper topic, might motivate the students, to participate in conversation classes more.In this research, the researchers have investigated the effect of choosing a proper topic, on participation of the students in high schools. They have followed a mixed method and some questionnaires have been used. The last results admit, the effect of an interesting and motivating topic on participation of the learners, and we can obviously observe, that the students are eager to speak and ask to utter the ideas, again and again.IntroductionThe ability of speaking is concerned as an important part of communication. The speaking skill in addition of playing role in our daily life, is crucial for making international communication.Speaking skill is not easy, daily language; but also we need it to use as an international language; especially for vocational high school. In addition, teacher needs to find the solution to help the students to master it. (cristina & mandasori ۲۰۰۲)If the student speaks and writes confusingly and unclear, it means that the development of his ideas is not clear and/or correct (Ioana Lepadatu , ۲۰۱۲). They also require, perhaps a greater degree of adaptability and “thinking on your feet” than other types of classes. (Camilla turner, ۲۰۱۱)Penny Ur (۲۰۱۲) has presented four different problems, that occurs in conversational activities and make inhabitation for participation of the learners and has offered solutions for that.For keeping students from boredom while improving their speaking skill, teachers can work on using attractive topics. This research aimed at identifying students “engagement”۲in conversation after modifying the topics. The participants are students of high school and the teachers and instructors of high school.Speaking is the most important and essential skill. (Oradee ۲۰۱۲) Classroom activities, that develop student’s ability to express themselves through speech, would therefore seem an important component of a language course. Some courses are explicitly designed, to promote oral fluency.Speaking, is one of important parts in teaching language, because it includes one of four basic language skills. (kusmaryati ۲۰۰۸-۲۰۰۹) The ability to engage in conversation, is a crucial aspect of language learning, particularly for students learning to speak English as a second language.In this form of the class activities, we try to provoke the learners, to express their thought and ideas and engage in the conversation freely, to promote their speaking abilities. Sometimes, the learners don’t dare to talk in public and they refuse to utter and make precise sentences. But, when they are imposed to an interesting topic, they just want to offer their idea, so they try their best to convince the group.
