Trends and Applications of Climate-Responsive Planting Design Studies in Urban Planning

As climate change accelerates, the need for adaptive strategies in landscape architecture, urban planning, and ecological restoration grows increasingly urgent. Climate-responsive planting design, which leverages plant selection and landscape architecture to mitigate and adapt to climate change, offers a promising solution. This review study, conducted a comprehensive literature review to analyze research trends in climate-responsive planting design from ۲۰۰۷ to October ۲۰۲۴. A comprehensive literature search was conducted in Scopus from September to October ۲۰۲۴, using a carefully curated set of keywords derived from interdisciplinary discussions among experts in environmental design, landscape architecture, green space design, and climate adaptation. From an initial pool of ۱۵۳ unique records, ۱۲۱ documents were selected based on predefined criteria and subsequently assessed. Of these, ۱۱۲ documents were thoroughly reviewed. This study identifies trends and gaps in current knowledge on climate-responsive planting design, synthesizing information to provide a foundational resource for practitioners and researchers aiming to enhance the resilience of planting designs in urban environments.
