covalent attachment of a mlybdenum complex on modified activated carbon support and its catalytic application

Heterogenization of a molybdenum catalyst was carried out by covalent binding of bis( acetylacetonat)dioxo molybdenum (VI) complex on the surface of pretreated activated carbon (AC) with 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (APTS) and salicylaldehyde (Sal). Surface pretreatment of AC was performed using KMnO4 in the presence of tetrapropyl ammonium bromide (TPABr). Characterization of the prepared catalyst was done with different physicochemical methods such as FT-IR, energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDX), nitrogen adsorption/desorption and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Catalytic activity of the prepared catalyst was tested in the epoxidation of olefins with tert-butyl hydroperpxide (TBHP) which showed excellent catalytic activity and high stability. The catalyst was consecutively reused two times without loss of its activity.
