چکیده مقاله:

Background: Glyphosate, an N-(phosphono methyl) glycineis a broad spectrum herbicide widely used to eliminate unwantedplants which is responsible for many harmful effectson reproductive health such as endocrine disrupting effect inhuman embryonic cells, induced sperm abnormalities, decreasein the sperm count and sperm motility. The present study aimedto evaluate the protective effects of vitamin E (vit E) againstharmful effects of glyphosate on sperm parameters.Materials and Methods: ۳۶ adult male rats were randomizedinto six experimental groups (n=۶).group ۱ received ۰.۲۰ mlnormal saline (control), group ۲ received ۲۵۰ mg/kg Glyphosate, group ۳ received ۵۰۰ mg/kg Glyphosate, group ۴ received۱۰۰ mg/kg vit E, group ۵ received ۱۰۰ mg/kg vit E+۲۵۰ mg/kg Glyphosate, group ۶ received ۱۰۰ mg/kg vit E +۵۰۰ mg/kgGlyphosate. All administration were done orally. After ۵۶ days,Changes in sperm parameters were evaluated. Results: Sperm parameters analyze showed that glyphosategroups had significant reduction of sperm count, motility, viabilityand significant increase in sperm abnormality comparedwith control group. Vitamin E co-administration significantly(P<۰.۰۵) improved harmful effects of glyphosate on mentionedsperm parameters. Conclusion: Our results demonstrate that vitamin E has protectiveeffect on sperm parameters against the glyphosate negativeeffects.
