In this paper, a modified widened flange beam-column connection is proposed and its seismicperformance is investigated using virtual hybrid simulation framework. For conducting the requiredanalyses, first a virtual hybrid simulation framework is developed; in which half of a steel momentresisting frame is two-dimensionally modeled in OpenSees, and rest of the frame is threedimensionallysimulated in ABAQUS. Continuous data exchange between two finite element codesoccurs through OpenFresco. For investigating the behavior of the proposed connection, a parametricstudy is conducted. Based on the results, optimal dimensions of the connection are presented.Furthermore, the superior behaviour of the proposed connection in comparison with weldedunreinforced flange-welded web (WUF-W) moment connection in terms of increasing energyabsorption and decreasing the stresses along beam flange groove weld is demonstrated.
