STOCHASTIC SYNTHETIC SEISMIC CATALOGOF AHVAZ CITY

The city of Ahvaz is located on the southern side of the folded belt of Zagros and at the beginningof the Khuzestan plain. This city is classified as an area with moderate seismic hazard in the IranianCode of Practice for Seismic Resistant Design of Buildings (Standard No. ۲۸۰۰). Due to thequaternary active Ahvaz fault, which is over ۱۰۰ km long and passes through the city, it has becomenecessary to pay more attention to the seismic hazard in this area. In this paper, the completedhistorical catalog of Ahvaz city and its surrounding area is presented by artificial statistical method.For this purpose, the missing earthquakes are found under the stationary assumption. By adding themto the catalog, the stochastic synthetic seismic catalog (SSSC) of Ahvaz city is presented. The resultsof this research show the high number of missing earthquakes in the historical and early instrumentalperiod.
