چکیده مقاله:

Sustainable and resilient seismic design is a new challenge for structural engineers to incorporateeconomy, human welfare, and environment preservation in seismic regions. Modern techniquesprovide opportunities for realistic analysis and design of structures to meet desired performance levels. This paper discusses available mechanisms to protect structures from damage and facilitate functionalrecovery after an earthquake. Hence, post-earthquake realignment and repair (PERR) is the main focusof a sustainable and resilient seismic design, which is not covered by standard practices likeperformance-based design. The design philosophy of a sustainable and resilient approach toearthquake-resistant design pushes the current practice to go beyond the life safety goals and ensurethe rapid recovery of structures experiencing strong ground motions. Damage protection and rapidrecovery preserve natural resources, reduce environmental footprints, and enhance public health andsafety by keeping infrastructures accessible and functional.
