Time evolution is the trend of state variation in a system. An essential aspect of time series is theirtime-evolutionary properties. Studying the evolution of seismic records with time may reveal somehidden structures of seismic time series. The main goal of this research is to determine if there are anycommon evolutionary features between components of an earthquake. To this end, the string-matchingalgorithm, a pattern recognition procedure, can be a suitable tool for translating the time evolution of arecord. Two horizontal components of ۱۳۰ seismic records are analyzed using a process inspired bythe string-matching pattern recognition algorithm. An alphabet containing eight letters is used totranslate the time-evolutionary structures. Finally, common properties and patterns are detected bycomparing the resulting strings.
