Shake table testing and displacement analysis were used to compare the seismic stability of aconventional inclined earth retaining wall and a reinforced earth retaining wall on slopes. Thereinforced soil retaining wall was observed to have a plastic behavior in the modeled environment,while the soil was excited by the highly accelerated supply. Under average ground acceleration, theinclined retaining wall was observed to fail. There is significant displacement of the inclined wallunder average ground acceleration due to the residual friction angle of the backfill of sand. On theother hand, the maximum friction angle of the sand backfill is what makes the reinforced earth wallbehave the same way even under strong ground acceleration
