چکیده مقاله:

The ideas presented in this article were inspired by the increasing interest in sustainabledevelopment and environmental protection worldwide. Currently, the subject matter is neither part ofcontemporary design codes and guidelines nor college curricula. Any structure designed to surviveearthquakes is expected to either remain relatively intact or be capable of post-earthquake realignmentand repairs. Regardless of the carbon imprint reduction, unless a structure is designed for the purpose,it would be disposable with greater harm to the environment. This brief overview discusses thedifferences between resilient and sustainable seismic design which is a new field of research thatpromises improved environmental conditions and innovative developments in structural engineering. The authors promote the notion that quantifiable residual stresses and strains are reliable indicators ofearthquake damage that may lead to the development of a viable and achievable sustainable seismicdesign. In the interim, the concepts of “P-delta Suppression” and “Removal of Residual Effects” for asimple moment frame have been introduced.
