Synthesis and characterization of pH-responsive intelligent packaging filmbased on polyvinyl alcohol/ chitosan/ cellulose containing curcumin

A pH-responsive intelligent packaging system based on polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), chitosan, andcellulose with the addition of curcumin as bioactive agents was synthesized and characterized forpackaging chicken. The results of the characterization tests showed that the addition of curcuminsignificantly altered the morphology, mechanical, and barrier properties of the composite films.According to the results, only the films containing curcumin exhibited antibacterial activity. Thesefindings indicate that the prepared films can serve as reliable indicators for tracking the freshness andsafety of packaged chicken.
