Multi-Functional Additive for Polypropylene:Temperature-Sensitive Nucleating Agent with Antioxidant Properties

A novel temperature-sensitive additive with dual functionality as a nucleating agent and antioxidantwas synthesized through the reaction of ۴-amine-۲,۶-di-tert-butyl-phenol compound with benzene-۱,۳,۵-tricarbonyltrichloride. The additive's structure was confirmed using Fourier-transform infraredspectroscopy (FTIR). Polypropylene samples containing ۰.۵% by weight of the additive wereprepared and characterized using polarized microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), andoxidative induction times (OIT) tests. Results showed that the additive self-assembled in thepolypropylene melt, leading to enhanced crystallinity (۹.۲% increase) and oxidation resistance (۱۵%increase in OIT compared to pure polypropylene). The synthesized compound demonstrated afavorable dual function, making it a promising additive for polypropylene applications
