Investigation of competitive adsorption of Cu(II) and Pb(II) by imidazolatezeolite framework(ZIF-۸)

The demand for clean water is increasing due to rapid population growth and industrial development.However, the insufficient availability of new water sources underscores the importance of effectivelyand sustainably removing contaminants for wastewater reuse. In this stady, we synthesized ZIF-۸ ina simple way and used XRD and FTIR tests to characterize it. Finally, a solution containing bothCu(II) and Pb (II) ions was prepared and the adsorption capacity of ZIF-۸ in this solution wasinvestigated by atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS). Our adsorbent was able to absorb ۸۷% Cu(II)and ۹۹% Pb(II). As a result, in this competition Pb (II) was absorbed ۱۲% more than Cu(II) by ZIF-۸. These characteristics show that ZIF-۸ is an excellent candidate for the heavy metal ions removalfrom wastewater.
