چکیده مقاله:

This study investigates the use of modality in Anthony Doerr's novel "All the Light We CannotSee", particularly how it influences the narrative's point of view of the characters. Using theframeworks of Simpson and Fowler, the analysis examined modals like can, will, should, must, and might to explore characters' psychological states and moral dilemmas. The novel’s thirdpersonomniscient perspective provided a basis for examining positive and negative modality inthe context of the characters' experiences during World War II. Negative modality in the novelwas shown to often signal uncertainty, danger, and suffering. The study contributes to a broaderunderstanding of modality in literary works, showing how specific modal verbs and phrases cancreate complex psychological Point of Views and emotional depth in narrative fiction
