چکیده مقاله:
Audiovisual translation of humor has been a challenge faced by translators. regardless of their bestefforts to retrain the humorous features, translators will inevitably eliminate or lessen some of thehumorous effects in the target language. This descriptive and quantitative article investigates humortranslation in audiovisual media focusing on dubbing and subtitling. The corpus consists of humorousscenes from the animation 'Barnyard' this case study has chosen because it has so many humorousscenes and the dubbed version and subbed version are different. The analysis is based on thecomparison of the humorous scene in their original audio track with their dubbed and subtitledversion. The study focuses on the humorous elements that are specific to a language or culture. Themethodology of the research is based on Juan Martinez-Sierra's case study 'Translating AudiovisualHumor' (۲۰۰۹) the scenes were categorized and analyzed based on the eight elements in his case studybut not all of the elements are required to be examined. The results show that in certain cases there isa huge difference between subbed and dubbed versions and how they load the humorous element. The subtitled version is normally more faithful to the source text rather than the dubbed version. Alsoin the dubbing process, the cultural specific item and community sense of humor are being used.
