Introduction: According to the International Labor Organization (ILO), almost one-third of work-related deaths are caused by occupational accidents, which can be caused by biological, chemical, medical, physical, safety, ergonomic, and psychosocial hazards. Occupational accidents are caused by predisposing factors that can be prevent. Considering the importance of the issue of occupational accidents, this study investigates the causes of occupational accidents and prevention strategies. Methods: In this review study, Google scholar, Pubmed, and SID databases were used with the keywords of "occupational accidents" and "prevention".۲۰۴۰ articles found in total. After removing duplicates and reviewing the titles and abstracts, ۹articles that were accepted in the years ۲۰۱۴ to ۲۰۲۴ were studied and reviewed. Results: According to studies, job stress is one of the factors affecting the occurrence of occupational accidents, so in order to reduce the stress of employees, it is necessary to implement policies such as conditions of job advancement, control of the environment in terms of crowding, and holding educational workshops. Other causes of occupational accidents include sleep disturbances, lack of proper vacations, insufficient skills, shift work, time pressure, low number of employees, and poor supervision. The use of standard methods of patient transfer, paying attention to the culture of patient safety, observing ergonomic principles, and using safe methods in doing work are among the strategies to prevent accidents.Conclusion: Accurate investigation of occupational accident statistics considering the frequency of occurrence, location and type of accidents and planning for their prevention is important. It is also essential to educate employees on safety and self-protection issues and to provide protective equipment for employees.
