The Effect of REAP Technique on Reading Comprehension and Reading Motivation of Intermediate Iranian EFL learners

Reading comprehension and reading motivation are widely recognized as the foundational pillars of progress in learning English as a foreign language. Researchers have been diligently working to improve the reading abilities of EFL students by cultivating innovative reading techniques. Among these methods, REAP has emerged as an exceptionally promising approach. The present study aimed to investigate the extent to which this method would impact the motivation to read and the comprehension of Iranian L۲ learners. To assess this, a total of ۳۰ participants were conveniently sampled and then randomly divided into two groups: an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group received instruction using the REAP technique, while the control group received a traditional treatment. The results of both ANCOVA and independent samples t-test indicated that the REAP learners outperformed the control group in terms of reading comprehension. Furthermore, the reading motivation of the EFL learners experienced a significant boost. This study suggests that utilizing the REAP technique can greatly enhance the reading comprehension and reading motivation of learners, surpassing the effectiveness of traditional reading practices. As a result, it is expected that this approach will enhance the communicative skills of EFL learners.
