A Comparative Study between Australian Aborigines’ TheDreamtime and Shakespeare’s King Lear

This study compares Aboriginal motifs and myths to Shakespeare’s King Lear. The researcher wants toshow these two literary works have motifs and images in common. King Lear is about political authority asmuch as family dynamics. The Dreamtime is a term that describes unique stories and beliefs owned and heldby different Australian Aboriginal groups. The history of the Dreamtime word and its meanings sayssomething about the development of the ideas held about the Aboriginal world, and how they are expressedthrough art and literature. In this paper, Aboriginal motifs such as “old age”, “the law”, “land” and “thefamily” are compared to Shakespeare’s King Lear to depict the similarities and differences between the twonations.
