Assessment and comparison of dosimetry for the probability of mastitis occurrence in breast cancer radiotherapy with a treatment planning system

Breast cancer is a prevalent form of cancer, and radiation therapy is a common treatment modalityused for its management. However, a potential complication of radiation therapy for breast cancer is thedevelopment of mastitis. Mastitis refers to inflammation of the breast tissue, often accompanied by symptomssuch as pain, swelling, and redness. Prompt recognition and appropriate management of mastitis are crucial inoptimizing patient outcomes and minimizing discomfort associated with the condition.This study aimed toinvestigate the occurrence of mastitis in breast cancer patients undergoing radiation therapy. The study wasconducted in the year ۲۰۲۳ at Milad Hospital and included ۳۰ patients. Mastitis complications were assessedduring the treatment period and within ۴۰ days after radiation therapy. The results indicated that overall, sixindividuals (۴۰.۰۰%) experienced mastitis complications. Additionally, the average values of maximum dose,minimum dose, and mean dose were higher in breast cancer patients with mastitis compared to those withoutcomplications.
