Influence of Human Factors in Bike-Sharing Systems:Hiring System, Safety, Phone Application, and Satisfaction

The widespread use of bike-sharing systems (BSSs) across the world has the potential to provide significant advantages interms of public health, traffic reduction, and emissions reduction. Bikes can be hired from station to station (dock-based)or free-floating (dockless). Station accessibility is one of the most essential elements that users consider when selecting amode of transportation. In this research, questionnaires and surveys are used to explore three major human factors regardingaccessibility connected to the hiring system, safety concerns, and how the phone application is user-friendly. These pollswere conducted in Mashhad, Iran in comparison to Rome, Italy in May and June ۲۰۲۲. User identification, accessibility interms of hiring method, safety, the phone application, hurdles to BSS usage as well as overall satisfaction, are five sectionsincluded in the questionnaire. The type of quality questions in this survey that are used to analyze the results is Rohrmann(۱۹۷۸) having ۵-level scales for evaluating satisfaction, frequency, and intensity. To analyze the questionnaire, it is possibleto assign numbers to each question's options and evaluate them. According to the survey, almost half of users have feltmedium (neutral) to accessibility, safety, phone application and overall satisfaction with using the bike-sharing system.Although using dock-based mode has more benefits for operators and optimal use of public space, users tend to use free-float mode because it is more convenient and comfortable for them concerning the surveys.
