Assessment of the Effectiveness of Landscape Architecture History Courses in University Classes

The role of understanding landscape architecture history, its significance in shaping contemporary planning challenges, informing sustainable management practices, and guiding the evolution of unique landscapes is extremely vital, while also serving as a primary educational tool for future professionals. Herein, our research aims to fill a research gap by examining the integration and categorization of landscape architecture history topics discussed in universities worldwide, in line with expert theories, exploring how universities incorporate historical perspectives to enrich students' comprehension of cultural and environmental processes and evolutionary patterns, and how experts' views align with university curriculum and teaching methodologies, thereby contributing to a comprehensive understanding of the field and its implications for future practices. The methodology involved initially compiling a list of universities offering landscape architecture programs. A total of ۵۹ courses from ۵۳ universities were chosen for analysis. The results indicates that while courses related to landscape architecture from prehistoric times to the present era are the most widely offered, contemporary history of landscape architecture and the indigenous landscape architecture history of a country are comparatively less prevalent among universities. The research underscores the significance of integrating historical perspectives into landscape architecture education, offering insights for curriculum development and teaching methodologies globally, to equip students with the tools needed to address modern landscape challenges and promote sustainable management practices.
