Chemical functionalization of chitosan nanoparticles to enhance antibacterial activityagainst Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli pathogens

Antibiotic resistant pathogens have caused a challenge in the effectiveness of antimicrobial agents.The present investigation describes the modification of chitosan nanoparticles by a curcumin/quaternarypyridinium compound. The results showed that the hybrid compound is a potent antibacterial agent, attributingto synergic effect of quaternary pyridinium and chitosan segments
