Synthesis, characterization, and anticancer activity of a Ru(II) complex bearing afluorinated cyclometalated ligand

A new Ru(II)-arene complex [(p-cymene)Ru(dfppy)(OAc)], ۱, bearing ۲-(۲,۴-difluorophenyl)pyridine(dfppy), as a cyclometalated ligand, was prepared by reaction of [(p-cymene)RuCl(μ-Cl)]۲, A, and dfppy inpresence of sodium acetate, NaOAc. The complex ۱ was characterized by means of various spectroscopic andanalytical techniques. On several different human cancer cell lines, and a normal cell, the cytotoxic activities ofthese compounds were tested. Complex ۱ demonstrated good to moderate anti-cancer activity.
