The ZnO-NiO Nano-Composite: Kinetic and Thermodynamic Study on The SulfasalazinePhotodegradation

The coupled ZnO–NiO nano-composite (NC) was prepared and used in the photodegradation ofsulfasalazine (SZ). The best photocatalytic activity was obtained at pH ۶.۵ (near the pHpzc: ۷.۶), ۰.۷ g/L of thecatalyst, and ۷ mg/L sulfasalazine (SZ). The frequency factor of ۲.۱۳۱ × ۱۰۴ min−۱ and the activation energy of۱۵.۸۷ kJ/mol were obtained for the process by the Arrhenius equation. A negative activation ΔS (−۰.۲۲ kJ/mol)with the positive ΔH and ΔG values was obtained for the SZ photodegradation by the ZnO–NiO composite.
