Oxidative addition of MeI to a new Pt(II) complex: kinetic and theoretical elucidation

Oxidative addition (OA) of MeI to Pt(II) complex [PtAr۲(bpyNO)], ۱, Ar = p-MeC۶H۴, bpyNO = ۵-methyl-[۲,۲′-bipyrimidine]-۱-N-oxide, afforded the new Pt(IV) complexes [PtAr۲MeI(bpyNO)], ۲, as a mixture of transand cis isomers. This reaction was kinetically explored using UV-Vis spectroscopy. The OA process took placethrough a classical SN۲ attack of the Pt(II) center on the MeI reagent, according to the kinetic data.
