In this paper, Proportional integral derivative (PID) controller is present to control the behavior of semi active suspension system of vehicle using MR damper. The particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is a optimization method and apply to problems in order to improving the performance of the system. In order to improving the ride comfort and vehicle stability the PID control gain tuned by PSO algorithm for semi active suspension system. A full car model with MR damper is used and modeled in Matlab/Simulink to evaluate the performance of the PID controller tuned by PSO in semi active suspension system. The proposed suspension system consists of two controller; a system controller and a damper controller. The system controller uses to evaluate the desired damping force for dynamic responses of the plant according PID controller and damper controller uses to predict the command voltage that is required to track the purpose damping force. The performance of the model is tested on two excitations, the first is a bump road distribution and the second is a random road distribution. The result of PSO-PID controller with voltage controller are generated in time domain and compared with classic PID controller, MR passive and passive suspension system. The simulation results, show the designed PSO-PID controller with voltage controller can improved the ride comfort and vehicle stability.
