Reducing energy consumption of centrifugal fans in ducted split air conditioners throughoptimizing the performance of the integrated fan and electric motor set

One of the effective actions in reducing energy consumption is the appropriate selection of fanconnectedelectric motors, which themselves lead to energy loss reduction. An electric motor can supply themechanical load connected to it if the motor's performance characteristic matches the mechanical loadcharacteristic. If the selected electric motor is larger than necessary, the motor will not operate at full or nearfull load, resulting in lower efficiency than its optimal value. In this study, the performance and electrical energyconsumption of a centrifugal fan used in split air conditioners have been evaluated. Using a fan test rig equippedwith a dynamometer to measure the input torque to the fan shaft, the fan performance curve along with theinput power to its shaft at different pressure and flow rates was obtained.
