Rehabilitation and Structural Health Monitoring of Civil Infrastructure

The structural health monitoring (SHM) of civil infrastructures mainly aims to monitor the structural condition, detect the structural damage/abnormality, and evaluate the structural safety based on the long-term monitoring data from a variety of sensors installed on the structure. The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of the importance of infrastructure, particularly civil infrastructure, in supporting economic activities, ensuring public safety, and improving the quality of life for communities. The paper also discusses the necessity of rehabilitation and maintenance in extending the service life of structures, and the role of structural health monitor (SHM) in detecting structural damage and abnormality and evaluating structural safety. The text emphasizes the need of investing in infrastructure maintenance and implementing efficient inspection methods to ensure the safety and functionality of civil structures.
