چکیده مقاله:

The increasing growth of the dimensions of urbanization and the formation of new scales of urban growth during the last few decades have caused the contemporary city and urban planning to face new challenges. The neighborhood is the most tangible part of the city; through which citizens communicate with the city. The approach that moves the urban planning process towards the neighborhoods is the sustainable neighborhood development approach; which is considered and used as one of the dominant approaches of the present era in urban planning. In general, the aim of this research is to achieve sustainable neighborhood development, improve spatial structure and strengthen local identity through social symbols in line with the use of social capital. Dolab neighborhood is one of the old neighborhoods of Tehran that has undergone physical and social changes during the contemporary era and has been selected as a case study. The research method is applied in terms of its purpose and observational in terms of its nature and method. The statistical collection of people living in Dolab neighborhood is a method of collecting information in the form of library and documents and partly field methods (questionnaire) and direct observation (participatory) method. And in this research, the Likert scale method is used to analyze the data collected from questionnaires and objective observations. In fact, according to localities as the basis of social life of residents, local sustainable development can be achieved. The ultimate goal of sustainable neighborhood development is the connection between social and physical capital; In the sense that social processes are used to improve identity and body structure and create capacity for future developments.
