Chronic Anxiety in Medical Students at Balkh University

Subjective: Anxiety is a negative emotional state caused by confronting unfavorable and unmanageable situations. Starting university and facing a new setting often triggers anxiety in students, particularly those who anticipate a demanding work environment.Methods: The study is a descriptive-analytical research conducted in ۲۰۲۳ on the students of Balkh University Faculty of Medicine. A sample size of ۱۲۰ students was chosen using the basic random sampling approach. Data was collected using Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI). Descriptive and inferential statistics were applied for data analysis using SPSS ۲۷. Out of ۱۲۰ participants, ۵۲ were aged ۲۰-۲۵, ۳۸ were aged ۲۵-۳۰, and ۳۰ were aged ۳۰-۳۵. Out of the respondents, ۶۲ resided in dormitories and the remaining ۵۸ lived in individual residences. Results: Out of ۱۲۰ students, ۵۶ had normal anxiety levels, ۳۵ had mild anxiety, ۱۲ had moderate anxiety, ۸ had severe anxiety, and ۹ had extremely severe anxiety.Conclusion: Therefore, psychologists in student counseling centers should pay attention to reducing the level of anxiety in students and study the reasons for its occurrence.
