Effectiveness of Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) on Non-Ulcer Diabetic Foot Incidents

Aims: Diabetic foot ulcers are one of the complications of diabetes mellitus (DM). To prevent complications, the central pillar is DM management, namely education. Diabetes Self Management Education (DSME) gives knowledge to patients regarding the application of self-care strategies independently to optimize control, prevent complications, and repair the quality of life of DM patients. Until now, the Banjarmasin Community Health Center has not implemented its education using the DSME method, but it still uses conventional education.  This research aims to determine the effectiveness of DSME on the incidence of non-ulcer diabetic foot in the Banjarmasin Health Centre. Methods: This type of research is an experiment with a nonequivalent control group design retrieval technique sample, namely consecutive sampling. ۲۳۰ participants, statistical analysis used the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test and Mann-Whitney Test. Results: The study of the difference in the mean incidence of non-ulcer diabetic feet pre-test and post-test in the intervention group with a p-value of ۰.۰۰۹, while in the control group, the p-value was ۰.۰۶۹. Analysis results Difference in mean incidence of non-ulcerated diabetic foot after DSME in the intervention and control groups with a P value of ۰.۰۰۳. Conclusion: DSME effectively reduces the incidence of non-ulcerated diabetic foot in the Banjarmasin Community Health Center.
