چکیده مقاله:

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVESMouthrinses play an important role in oral hygiene and prevention of tooth decay by reducing the proliferation of oral carogenic flora. The purpose of this study was to investigate the antibacterial and anti-biofilm activity of Persica and chlorhexidine ۰.۲% mouthrinses against Streptococcus mutans and Streptococcus sanguinis.MATERIALS AND METHODSTo evaluate the antibacterial effect of mouthrinses on two standard strains of S. mutans and S. sanguinis, were used well diffusion and MIC methods and to examine their anti-biofilm effects, the microtiter plate method was used. Results were evaluated by Excel software ۲۰۱۹.RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONIn the well diffusion method chlorhexidine ۰.۲% had an inhibition zone at concentrations of ۵۰۰ mg/ml to ۱۲۵ mg/ml, respectively. The MIC of Persica was determined at concentration of ۵۰۰ mg/ml and chlorhexidine ۰.۲% at concentration of ۳۱.۲۵ mg/ml. In microtiter plate method, anti-biofilm activity was observed for chlorhexidine ۰.۲% at concentrations of ۱۲۵ mg/ml to ۳۱.۲۵ mg/ml. Persica did not have any anti-biofilm effect on the studied bacteria.CONCLUSIONChlorhexidine ۰.۲% mouthrinse has a very high antimicrobial power than Persica, but our study suggests that Persica mouthrinse if they are used in pure concentration, they can be a suitable alternative to chlorhexidine.
