Reproductive Performance of Crossbred Dairy Cows in Ethiopia: A Review

The economy of livestock production largely depends upon the reproductive efficiency of the animals. This review was conducted to review and generate compiled information about the reproductive traits of crossbred cattle such as age at first service (AFS), age at first calving (AFC), calving interval (CI), days open (DO), and number of services per conception (NSPC) under Ethiopian conditions. All published materials are cited to provide some information on the values of reproductive traits of crossbred dairy cattle. It is concluded that improving the management system such as efficient heat detection and timely insemination, better health management, genetic improvement of crossbreeding, and supplementing of good quality feed resources are required for optimal reproduction performance.The economy of livestock production largely depends upon the reproductive efficiency of the animals.
