چکیده مقاله:

The present study aimed to investigate the association between variations in the superoxidedismutase ۲ (SOD۲) gene and their impact on oxidative biomarkers in patients with chronickidney disease (CKD) [۱,۲]. Specifically, the study focused on the correlation between SOD۲gene variations and serum levels of oxidative biomarkers including protein thiol and carbonylgroups, advanced oxidative protein products, nitrotyrosine, malondialdehyde (MDA),malondialdehyde adducts, total oxidant status, and prooxidant-antioxidant balance.Blood samples were collected from ۵۰ CKD patients (۲۸ males and ۲۲ females) with a mean ageof ۷۰.۶۵ ± ۴.۸۵ years. Genotyping was performed using real-time polymerase chain reaction. The byproducts of oxidative stress, including protein thiol and carbonyl groups, advancedoxidative protein products, nitrotyrosine, MDA, MDA adducts, total oxidant status, andprooxidant-antioxidant balance, were analyzed using ELISA, UV spectroscopy, and calorimetricmethods [۳].The results indicated that the presence of the SOD۲ Val/Val genotype increased the risk of CKDdevelopment, and this risk was significantly higher in individuals with the of the SOD۲ Val/Valgenotypes (OR=۱.۹۲, p<۰.۰۵). Furthermore, individuals carrying the SOD۲ Val/Val genotypeshowed elevated levels of MDA, protein thiol and carbonyl groups, and antioxidant capacity. The findings of this study support the hypothesis that the SOD۲ Val/Val significantly increasethe risk of CKD development. Additionally, these genotypes are associated with higher levels ofoxidative biomarkers in the serum. These results suggest that dysregulation of oxidative stress bythe SOD۲ enzyme may play a significant role in the pathogenesis and progression of CKD.
