چکیده مقاله:

Introduction: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of Ajuga chamaecistus ssp. tomentella ointment on healing pressure ulcers (PU) in patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU).Method: In this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial, ۱۳۱ patients with grade ۱ or ۲ PU were randomly assigned into one of two groups through simple randomization. The study group received ۳% Ajuga ointment (AO), while the control group received placebo twice a day for ۱۴ days in addition to the standard care for PU. Changes in the degree and size of wounds were considered as the primary outcomes of the study based on the ۲-digit Stirling scale. Results: ۴۰ patients in each group completed the research. Mean (۹۵% confidence interval) difference values, for wound degree, between placebo and Ajuga groups on day ۷ vs. day ۰ was -۰.۸۸ (-۱.۰۱ to -۰.۷۶), on day ۱۴ vs. day ۷ was -۰.۶۹(-۰.۸۵ to -۰.۵۳), and on day ۱۴ vs. day ۰ was -۱.۵۷ (-۱.۷۸ to -۱.۳۶). Mean (۹۵% confidence interval) difference values , for wound area, between placebo and Ajuga groups on day ۷ vs. day ۰ was -۱.۷۳۰(-۱.۹۷۹ to -۱.۴۸), on day ۱۴ vs. day ۷ was -۱.۴۱۱ (-۱.۶۵۴ to -۱.۱۶۸), and on day ۱۴ vs. day ۰ was -۳.۱۴۲ (-۳.۵۶۳ to -۲.۷۲).Conclusion: Topical application of AO significantly improved PU on days ۷ and ۱۴ compared to placebo. Evaluation of the effects of this plant on a larger sample size, for a longer period of time and in different medical centers is recommended. This clinical trial was registered in the Iranian Registry of Clinical Trials (No.: IRCT۲۰۱۹۱۱۱۰۰۴۵۳۸۹N۱).
