Investigating the Relationship between Self-esteem and Aggression among Male and Female Students of Zahedan Islamic Azad University

During the study period, all the students, especially the students of the medical science department, in addition to having the problems of other students, also face problems specific to their field, for this reason, more than other students are at risk of losing their mental health and self-esteem. It is the most important factor in the process of psychological development of a person. Therefore, considering the importance of self-esteem and factors related to it, this study was conducted with the aim of determining the relationship between self-esteem and aggression among female and male students of Zahedan Islamic Azad University. The research tools and methods current study is a descriptive-analytical cross-sectional study. The study population in this research is all the students of Zaman Islamic Azad University. The criteria for entering the study are: studying at Zahedan Islamic Azad University and having informed consent, participants who did not give informed consent or had a history of mental illness were excluded. Out of the total number of ۶۴۸ students from the fields of medicine, nursing, midwifery, laboratory science and clinical psychology, the sample size was calculated using Cochran's sample size calculation formula of ۳۳۰ people, which was randomly stratified. The tools used in this research are: aggression questionnaire of Williams et al., Cooper Smith self-esteem questionnaire and demographic questionnaire. The findings of this study showed that the mean ± standard deviation of the self-esteem of Zahedan Islamic Azad University students was ۳۵.۸۰ ± ۱۳.۶۱; therefore, in total, the students of Zahedan Islamic Azad University had average self-esteem. Also, the aggression score of the studied students was ۵۳.۳۵ ± ۲۶.۶۰; that this score is equal to ۲.۰۵ points out of ۵ points; therefore, in total, the students of Zahedan Islamic Azad University had a low level of aggression. Also, the variables of gender, field of study, and probation history had a significant relationship with self-esteem (p<۰.۰۵). In addition, age and gender variables had a significant relationship with aggression (p<۰.۰۵). There is a significant negative-weak relationship between self-esteem and aggression of Islamic Azad University students (r=۰.۳۴, P=۰.۰۴۳). According to the results of the present study, it can be said that the level of self-esteem of Islamic Azad University students was average and the level of aggression was low. Also, there was a significant negative relationship between self-esteem and aggression.
